Police in Kabale District are investigating a case in which a woman is alleged to have killed her two-year-old child and dumped the body in a water stream.

Police in Kabale have arrested a woman accused of killing her 2-year-old child and dumping the body in a water stream.

According to Kigezi Police spokesperson Maate Elly, the suspect, Sylvia Akankwasa, was arrested after residents reported that she had been seen for two days without her child.

It is alleged that on May 15, 2026, at around 8:00 a.m., residents became suspicious after noticing the child was missing. They reported the matter to Local Council Chairperson Stella Samaki, who confronted the suspect.

When Akankwasa failed to account for the child’s whereabouts, residents searched the home and reportedly found the child’s clothes dumped in a toilet at her residence.

The LC chairperson then reported the matter to Kabale Police.

During interrogation, Akankwasa allegedly told police that she had killed her child and dumped the body in a water stream in Butobere.

Police, including the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), homicide team, and fire brigade, led by the District Criminal Investigations Officer (DCID), responded to the scene and recovered the body.

“The body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination,” Maate said.

He added that investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the alleged killing.
